Does my child need an ETA to go on a language study trip to the United Kingdom?
Essential Information for Language Study Abroad Programs in the United Kingdom
1. Passport required
As of October 1, 2021, a valid passport is required to enter the United Kingdom (England and Scotland). This document must remain valid at least until the end of your stay.
2. Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) required
Since April 2025, all European visitors must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to the United Kingdom.
- Apply online on the official website of the UK government.
- Cost: £16 per application (approximately €18.60).
- Validity: Two years or until the passport expires.

3. Required documents for minors residing in France
Any participant who is under 18 years of age at the time of departure and who normally resides in France (whether French or foreign) must have the following documents, in addition to the documents listed above:
- The original copy of the Authorization to Leave the Country (AST) form – Cerfa No. 15646*01 –duly completed and signed by one of the parents with parental authority. Download the form here.
- A legible photocopy of the ID document of the parent signing the AST form (please be sure to review the instructions provided on the Cerfa form mentioned above).
- If the name of the parent signing the document differs from that of the child, please also provide a photocopy of the family register.
⚠️ Without these documents, your child will not be able to leave France.
4. Visas for non-European nationals
IMPORTANT: Young people who are not European citizens may also need a visa. Please check with the relevant authorities.
It can take a long time to obtain identity documents or visas. We recommend that you begin the process as soon as possible.
All of the documents listed above (including the AST, the parent’s ID, and a copy of the accepted ETA receipt) must be submitted in hard copy to the LEC coordinator on the day of departure at the meeting point . Please do not send them by mail or email before the departure date.
