A language study trip to (re)discover ice hockey

A language study trip to Canada might be the perfect opportunity to discover a sport with which the French are little, if at all, familiar—and our friends across the Atlantic will tell you: what a shame! Ice hockey is played on an ice rink between two teams of six players each, who use sticks to push or shoot a puck into the opposing team’s goal. That’s the gist of it.

During their language study trip to Canada, fans may have the chance to watch these often very impressive players in action, equipped with helmets and heavily padded gear to protect themselves from collisions.

You can also play hockey during your language study trip to the U.S.

While there is no doubt that ice hockey is the most popular sport among our Canadian friends, it is by no means less popular in the United States —quite the contrary! Thus, a young person on a language study program in the U.S. will easily hear people talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Boston Bruins, or the Chicago Blackhawks: so it’s best to know a few teams so you can chat about them with the locals!

An Olympic sport since 1920, ice hockey has brought together all the players from North America’s National Hockey League (NHL) during the world-famous Stanley Cup —and has been doing so since 1893!—for a spectacle that’s often full of excitement… A must-see for fans!
