The Intensive Courses and Activities Program at a Glance
- Homestay accommodation with 1 or 2 students per family (your choice, depending on the location)

This language immersion program allows students to make maximum progress in a minimum amount of time. It is designed for motivated students who, depending on the length of the program they choose, will be able to take a number of class hours equivalent to several months of high school instruction. In June, this program is offered as a special course reserved for students completing their sophomore year.
Accommodation
- With a host family selected and visited by our local coordinators. Learnhow families are selected.
- You can choose: 1 or 2 French students per family. In Malta, each family will host two French students (students may stay with a friend)
- Families living in residential neighborhoods near the campus
- Full board (on weekdays, a packed lunch provided by the family at noon)
This question is key to making the most of your child’s stay, and the answer depends mainlyontheir motivation to goand their personality. Our experience has led us to the following conclusion: For English language programs in Malta, students are required to be placed with another French student in their host family.
One or two French speakers per family? LEC has some advice
Supervision
- Indigenous and French teachers and facilitators
- 1 adult for every 12 children
- 1 French staff member on site, available to parents and students
- Priorities: progress in language learning, safety, and the well-being of young people
Language classes
- 4 4 hours of classes per day, in the morning
- Classes of 8 to 10 students, formed based on a placement test
- Intensive, tailoredinstruction based on the students' needs
- Interactive courses for significant improvement in both writing and speaking
- Practicing speaking skills to build self-confidence
- Grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension
- Practical exercises, press reviews, discussions, role-playing, etc.
- Classes are taught by a team of Indigenous and bilingual teachers, offering a variety of teaching approaches.
- Submitting a trip report
In Malta, classes are taught exclusively by qualified Maltese teachers (TEFL – Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) who are accredited by the Maltese Ministry of Education.
In June: Special workshop for 10th-grade students
- Exclusively for students completing their sophomore year
- A tailored educational program designed for intensive preparation for entry into 11th grade
- Reinforcing foundational knowledge and acquiring new concepts, catching up on any gaps, in preparation for ongoing assessments
- Available withthe "Discover London" option, so you can explore the British capital at the same time
Activities and Recreation
- 5 afternoons of recreational activities per week, led in English, German, or Spanish, such as:
- sports, such as (depending on the country and city): tennis, swimming, bowling, soccer, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, mini-golf, badminton, beach volleyball, beach soccer, beachminton, sandball, etc.
- cultural tours, such as (depending on the country and city of your stay):
– Oxford or Cambridge University, Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, Canterbury Cathedral, the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, etc., in England,
– Trinity College in Dublin, exploring the city of Galway, the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland,
– The walled city of Mdina, Valletta – the capital of Malta – the Mosta Dome – one of the largest in the world –, etc. in Malta,
– Tour of Bremen, Hamburg, Ulm, and a cruise on the Elbe, etc., in Germany,
– Tour of FC Barcelona’s stadium, the Sagrada Familia, the aqueduct and Alcázar of Segovia, the gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja, etc. , in Spain.

- A one-day excursion, such as (depending on the country and city of stay):
– London, Bath, Oxford, Brighton, etc. in England,
– Dublin, Carlow, Galway, etc. in Ireland,
– Munich, Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover, etc. in Germany,
– Madrid, Barcelona, Santander, etc. in Spain.
- Supervision ratio of 1 adult to 12 children
- 1 to 2 supervised evening activities (in certain host cities) in England and Ireland, such as: LEC disco, BBQ party, karaoke, etc. In Malta, 3 to 4 supervised evening activities per week.
For spring and fall break trips to Malta: since the weather can be cool during these periods, the itinerary focuses on cultural activities rather than swimming.
Important: All trips to Malta are reserved for young people who can swim.
