If you love cycling and traveling in North America, today’s article is just for you: today, and in preparation for your next language study trip to Canada, LEC takes you to the Go Vélo Montréal Festival, Quebec’s celebration of bicycles, which kicks off today! A closer look.

A unique experience in the heart of North America’s largest French-speaking city

The Go Vélo Festival, whose 2015 edition kicks off on Sunday, May 24, takes place in Montreal. The city is located about 500 kilometers from Toronto, a city you may have the chance to explore during your next language study trip to Canada with LEC. As the second-largest city in the country, it is also the most populous French-speaking city on the North American continent, with approximately 1.6 million residents.

A wide range of cycling activities

What is the goal of the Go Vélo Montréal Festival, year after year? To offer participants the chance to take part in a wide variety of cycling activities over the course of an entire week. It’s perfect for anyone who loves nature, a friendly atmosphere, and, above all, cycling…

From the Metropolitan Challenge…

For this year’s event, which wraps up on Sunday, May 31, 2015, Montreal will come alive with the sounds of chains, brakes, and—for the more daring—the screech of tires. The festivities will kick off with the Défi métropolitain, a must-attend event expected to draw some 3,000 participants. No stopwatch, no podium: just the joy of cycling in a one-of-a-kind setting!

… on the Tour of Montreal Island

On Friday, May 29, 2015, it’s time for Un Tour la Nuit, a costumed bike ride through the heart of downtown… lit only by streetlights and the moon. Finally, the Go vélo Festival will conclude with the Tour de l’Ile de Montréal, which starts at Jeanne-Mance Park and takes riders through 22 boroughs and towns.
