The county is home to the city of Dover, the very first point of contact in Britain for young people on language study trips to England who travel via the Eurotunnel. Kent covers an area of 3,730 km² and, in 2011, had a population of approximately 1,463,700, which is slightly more, on this side of the English Channel, than the region of Lower Normandy.
