After Eastbourne, Dover, and Folkestone, LEC continues its exploration of the English coast, taking you today to Great Yarmouth. Why? Because this is also the town where you might have the pleasure of staying during your next teen language trip to England ! Let’s take a closer look.

A major city in Norfolk, on the eastern tip of Great Britain

To explore Great Yarmouth during a teen language study trip to England, you’ll need to venture to the far east of the United Kingdom. It’s located in the county of Norfolk, a few miles north of Lowestoft, another destination city offered by our organization.

View of the North Sea

Unlike the English coastal towns of Brighton or Eastbourne, Great Yarmouth does not face the English Channel but rather the North Sea, which separates it from Amsterdam and the Netherlands. The town, which you can simply call Yarmouth during your language study trip to England, is home to about 62,000 residents—the same as a town like Neuilly-sur-Seine in France.

Great Yarmouth, where you’ll come across… Admiral Nelson

An important fishing town, Great Yarmouth is also a leading seaside and tourist resort —in fact, it is the largest of its kind in the entire county. The town, which is twinned with Rambouillet, France, boasts a striking seascape and several impressive landmarks, including its town hall and the even more spectacular Nelson’s Monument. Also known as the Britannia Monument, it was erected between 1817 and 1819 in honor of the famous admiral of the Battle of Trafalgar.

Between the sea and The Broads

Practicing English in Great Yarmouth also means getting up close to nature. Indeed, the town is beautifully situated between the sea and The Broads, a British national park famous for its impressive network of lakes and rivers. A location that surely didn’t disappoint Jason Statham, since the actor spent most of his childhood in the town!
