Southampton is a port in Great Britain located in Hampshire, a county you may have the privilege of discovering during an upcoming teen language study trip to England. Built at the head of Southampton Water, it is home to an estimated population of 253,651, which is a few thousand more than Bordeaux, on this side of the English Channel.
From the decline of the 16th century… to the revival in the 19th
A bustling port during the Middle Ages, Southampton fell into decline in the early 16th century. But by the early 19th century, it had become one of the major ports of modern England —a reputation the city has retained ever since.
