Why not explore Baden-Württemberg during your next teen language immersion program in Germany with LEC? We’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about this state on the border with France… Willkommen!
A state bordering Switzerland and France
Baden-Württemberg is one of the federal states that make up Germany, alongside other major regions such as Bavaria and Lower Saxony. The one we will refer to as Baden-Württemberg during your teen language study trip to Germany is the most southwestern of the country. It borders not only France, but also Switzerland, Lake Constance, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and the state of Hesse, as well as Bavaria.
From Stuttgart to Karlsruhe
In 2012, Baden-Württemberghad a population of approximately 10.51 million; this is more than in any region of France, with the exception of Île-de-France. Among the region’s major cities are, of course, Stuttgart, its capital, as well as Mannheim, Heidelberg, Ulm, and Karlsruhe —and it is in the heart of the latter that you’ll have the opportunity to perfect your knowledge of the language of Goethe during a teen language study program in Germany with LEC.
What to see in Baden-Württemberg?
Covering an area of 35,751 square kilometers, the state of Baden-Württemberg has plenty to offer both locals and tourists. In addition to its cities, which you’ll never tire of exploring—such as the 18th-century Karlsruhe Palace —there’s also the famous Black Forest, a mountain range overlooking the Rhine Valley. Finally, among the region’s must-see attractions is the Maulbronn Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: this Cistercian abbey, founded in 1147, is the most complete and best-preserved medieval monastic complex north of the Alps.
