Choose a language study program in Germany with LEC means giving yourself the chance to discover cities as diverse asUlm, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Wolfsburg, and Göttingen…or even Wilhelmshaven. Today, our organization has decided to give you a glimpse of the latter!
A city in northwestern Germany
To get a sense of whereWilhelmshaven is, it couldn’t be simpler: imagine Munich… and head in the exact opposite direction! Indeed, while Bavaria’s largest city lies in the far southeast of the country, Wilhelmshaven is located in its far northwest. It is just a few kilometers fromOldenburg, another city you may have the chance to discover during a future language study trip to Germany.
A name in honor of a German emperor
A leading port and seaside resort in the state of Lower Saxony, Wilhelmshaven is located on the Jade Sea, overlooking the North Sea. It has a population of approximately 80,000 within its city limits. The city owes its name to the German Emperor William I, whom, during a language study trip to Germany, we will not forget to call… Wilhelm I.
The country's largest port is Wilhelmshaven
Wilhelmshaven owes much of its international reputation to its port, which is the largest in the country. After nearly five years of construction, the Jade Weser Port opened in 2012.
A surrounding national park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
A trip to Wilhelmshaven might also be a chance to explore the nearby Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Behind this lengthy name lies the country’s second-largest national park. It covers a large portion of Germany’s North Sea coastline and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Sitesince 2009!
