See you in Russia to take over from Germany

From June 14 to July 15, 2018, the highly anticipated 21st edition of the Men’s World Cup will take place. Under the auspices of FIFA, 32 teams from around the globe will compete to succeed Germany, the 2014 champion, which defeated Argentina in the final. On July 25, the qualifying draw was held in Saint Petersburg (the competition will take place in 12 stadiums across Russia). It was a draw closely followed by the French, Spanish, and Italians… not to mention our Maltese friends!

These drawings were divided into five major regions:

  • Africa
  • North America, Central America, and the Caribbean
  • Oceania
  • South America
  • Europe

In this final qualifying round, 52 teams have been drawn to face off against one another for a spot in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. Among them is the archipelago well known to those who have, in the past, ventured therefor a language study trip…

Who is in Malta's group?

In its group, Malta will faceEngland andScotland, as well as:

  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Lithuania

The first round will be played in a home-and-away league format. The eight best second-place finishers will advance to the second round, and the nine group winners will qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Will Malta prove stronger than its tough opponents? The bets are on!
