Throughout October 2015, the city of Glasgow is set to come alive with the Mackintosh Festival. This has nothing to do with the famous raincoat or the line of personal computers developed by Apple. The star of the event we’re focusing on today is the legendary Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. During your next language study trip to Scotland with LEC, our organization invites you to take a virtual tour of this event cherished by many Britons.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh: a brilliant architect…

One of the most famous British architects and interior designers of his generation, Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born in Glasgow in 1868; however, he passed away in London 60 years later. An example of his work? The crowning achievement of his career remains the Glasgow School of Art (pronounced “Glasgow School of Art” during your language study trip to Scotland), built between 1897 and 1899, and then between 1907 and 1909.

… and a highly talented interior designer

As an interior designer, he designed several tea rooms in Glasgow between the very end of the 19th century and the beginning of the next century. He also developed a series of furniture designs; it was in this field, in particular, that he combined great originality with the simplicity championed by the Arts and Crafts movement, clearly distinguishing himself from continental Art Nouveau.

What is the Glasgow Mackintosh Festival?
