Today, Thursday, August 6, marks the start of the 2015 Tartan Heart Festival. Where is it held? What is it all about? As part of your language study trip to Scotland with LEC, our organization tells you about this event with interregional… and international reach.

A festival not far from Inverness

Just like every year, for a few days and nights, the Tartan Heart Festival is set to set the north of Great Britain ablaze. To find it, the most adventurous will have to venture some 150 miles northwest of St. Andrews, a city you’ll have the privilege of discovering during a language study trip to Scotland with LEC. Indeed, it’s not far from the famous city of Inverness —and the equally legendary Loch Ness —that the “festival at the heart of tartan” takes place every year (tartan being the lightweight woolen fabric whose bright, checkered colors are characteristic of Scotland’s various clans).

From 2004 to the present

The Tartan Heart Festival is a music festival held at the beginning of August each year. The first edition took place in 2004 —over the years, the event has grown in popularity, eventually attracting some of the biggest names in Scottish, English, and international music.

Some bands from past editions

Open-minded festivalgoers, a family-friendly atmosphere, and an idyllic setting: attendees can’t stop raving about the Tartan Heart Festival, an intimate event you’re sure to hear great things about during your language study trip to Scotland. Among the bands that have helped build its reputation are:

  • Alabama 3
  • The Proclaimers
  • The Bees
  • Texas
  • Travis
  • The Wombats
  • Tom Jones
  • Razorlight

The icing on the cake: the Tartan Heart Festival isn’t just about music—you’ll easily come across poetryreadings and discussions on social issues!
