Where is Dunfermlinelocated? In Fife (or, as you’ll come to call it during your language study trip to Scotland, the Kingdom of Fife), a coastal region in eastern Scotland, situated between two estuaries:
- the Forth Bridge
- the Tay
And so, nestled within a natural peninsula, lies the town of Dunfermline—which also happens to be a historic county!
A few highlights from the history of Dunfermline
Dunfermline was once the residence of the kings of Scotland. William the Conqueror fled there with his family after the Battle ofHastings, the heir to the English throne took refuge there at the end of the 11th century. His sister then married the King of Scotland there.
What is there to do in Dunfermline?
In the town known as Dùn Phàrlain in Scottish Gaelic, be sure to visit the home of the famous philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, or admire the town’s imposing abbey!
