Warning! If, during your next language study trip to the U.S., an American mentions Concord, they aren’t referring to the supersonic airliner; they could just as easily be taking you to the city of Concord! An introduction by LEC.

Concord, the capital of New Hampshire

Concord is the capital of New Hampshire, a state you may have the chance to explore during your next language study trip to the U.S. “The Granite State,” as it’s nicknamed, is located in the far northeast of Country and borders the Atlantic Ocean, as well as Vermont, Quebec, and Massachusetts. In addition to being the capital of New Hampshire, Concord is one of its most populous cities, along with Manchester and Nashua.

A language study program in the U.S. at Merrimack

With a population of just over 42,000 (roughly equivalent, in France, to the city of Bastia), Concord was founded on the Merrimack, a river that flows from the center of the state to the Atlantic Ocean. It was in the 1650s that the first European settlers settled there, transforming the site into a trading post.

Concord, famous among other things for its state capitol?

With a strong electronics and communications industry, Concord owes its reputation in part to its famous white granite. Something to keep in mind (and recall during your language study trip to the U.S.): Concord is home to the oldest state capitol building in the U.S. still in use!
