Fils aîné d’une fratrie de 3 enfants, il est élevé par un père qui enseigne les mathématiques et une mère musicienne professionnelle. Après l’obtention d’un diplôme en espagnol et en anglais (a-t-il été aidé par un séjour linguistique en Espagne ? L’histoire ne le dit pas !), il embrasse d’abord une carrière de musicien, puis de professeur d’anglais, avant de se lancer comme écrivain.
