Her critics say she is too old to run for the White House. Today, October 26, 2015, we are likely to hear even more from them, asHillary Clinton celebrates her 68th birthday. To mark the occasion, and as part of your upcoming language study trip to the United States, our organization would like to tell you a little more about this woman who—despite what her critics may say—still has plenty of energy to spare…

A Birth in Chicago

Hillary Clinton, whose full name is Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, was born in 1947 in Chicago,Illinois, a state you may have the privilege of discovering during an upcoming language study trip to the United States.

A Republican who became a Democrat

Coming from a conservative background in the Chicago suburbs, the young Hillary began her studies at the prestigious women’s college Wellesley. She took her first steps in politics as a Republicanactivist! Deeply involved in her party’s campaigns, she focused on civil rights and campaigned against the Vietnam War, before breaking definitively with the Grand Old Party following Richard Nixon’s nomination as the presidential candidate in 1968.

Is a return to the White House imminent?

After marrying Bill Clinton in 1975, she became the First Lady of Arkansas, and then the First Ladyof the United States. She held that title from 1993 to 2001. After leaving the White House, she became a Democratic senator from New York State, then succeeded Condoleezza Rice as U.S. Secretary of State. Today, her ambitions are quite different… but that’s another story.
