As part of your language study trip for teens to the USA, our organization does more than just send you to over 30 states across the United States. Our daily goal? To give you a glimpse of the country’s major cities—the ones you might have the privilege of visiting during your stay. Today, LEC invites you to discover Cleveland!
Cleveland, the second-most populous city in the state of Ohio
Cleveland is located in the northeastern United States, since it is in theOhio , a state you may have the pleasure of visiting during an upcoming teen language study trip to the USA with LEC. With a population of 390,113 in 2013, Cleveland is less populous than the state capital, Columbus, but more so than the famous Cincinnati, located some 250 miles away.
A city with a thousand nicknames
Like Chicago, Milwaukee, and Toronto, Cleveland is a city in the Great Lakes region. Situated on Lake Erie, it has many nicknames that you can easily try using during your teen language study trip to the U.S. Among them are:
- The Forest City
- C-Town
- The Cleve
But the city owes its actual name to Moses Cleaveland, the American lawyer and politician who founded it in the late 18th century.
Some must-see places in Cleveland
Cleveland captivates both locals and visitors with its skyscrapers and unique museums. Among the latter is the must-see Rock and Roll Museum (or Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in its original name), designed by architect Ieoh Ming Pei. After taking in the Terminal Tower or daydreaming while gazing at the Case Western Reserve University campus, you can venture into the Cleveland Museum of Art, an institution with nearly universal collections housing, among others, works by Picasso, Turner, and Caravaggio.
