If you happen to mention Austin during your next language study trip to the United States, be sure to specify which Austin you’re referring to! After all, the name “Austin” is used to refer to a city in Minnesota, another in Nevada, and even a neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois—not to mention the towns in neighboring Canada that also bear the name Austin.

The capital of Texas

The Austin that our organization is introducing to you today is surely the most famous of them all: it’s the one located in Texas, the second-largest state in Country after Alaska and the second-most populous state behind California, which you may have the chance to discover during an upcoming language study trip to the United States. Austin is the fourth most populous city in Texas, behind Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, but ahead of El Paso and Fort Worth. Better yet: it is nothing less than the state capital.

Built along the Colorado River—which originates in the Rocky Mountains and flows through the United States and Mexico before emptying into the Gulf of California—Austin had a population of 885,400 in 2013.
