What do you know about Everglades National Park? On your next language trip to the United States, LEC is here to help you brush up on your knowledge!
A vast expanse of nature not far from Miami
The Everglades is a U.S. national park located in Florida, a state you may have the privilege of discovering—or rediscovering—during an upcoming language study trip to the United States with LEC. It covers the southern tip of the state and is located west of Miami. Every year, it is visited by nearly a million curious visitors.
A park as large as the Orne or the Hérault
The Everglades National Park is vast, covering approximately 6,100 square kilometers: by way of comparison, that’s almost as large as the departments of Orne or Hérault on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Exceptional flora and fauna
The one we will take care to call Everglades National Park during their language study trip to the United States was established shortly after the end of World War II. It covers a marshy region with subtropical vegetation. It owes its fame, both on the American continent and beyond, to the exceptional nature of its flora and fauna. Birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles: there’s something for everyone!
When UNESCO Honors the Everglades
In 1976, 29 years after its creation, the park was designated a biosphere reserveby UNESCO; three years later, the same organization added it to its list of World Heritage Sites. But it would be a mistake to think that the park’s history began only recently: in fact, experts estimate that the first human settlements in southern Florida date back 10,000 to 20,000 years…
