Great Britain: A Top Choice for Language Study Abroad
At the top of the rankings for language study abroad programs, English-speaking countries continue to dominate, remaining the top choice for young people eager to improve their skills in what remains the language of international business. The gold medal goes to Great Britain, the undisputed champion in this field!
The United States, Canada, and Ireland are on the rise
In the rankings, Great Britain is closely followed by the United States, Canada, and Ireland—regions that saw significant increases in visitor numbers in 2013:UNOSEL reports increases of 3.4%, 11.25%, and 14.3%—highly encouraging results for lovers of the language of Shakespeare!
Language study trips to Germany are becoming increasingly popular
In this ranking of the most popular destinations for language study abroad, Spain and Germany are certainly not left out—quite the contrary! In 2013, our neighbors across the Rhine, for example, saw a surge in popularity that, despite British dominance, would make our friends across the Channel green with envy: language study trips to Germany increased by 38%!
The French are increasingly drawn to language study abroad programs
Overall, the number of French people who applied for a language study program in 2013 increased by nearly 13%: a figure that clearly demonstrates a growing popularity for this activity!
