Study Abroad Program in Spain – Surfing Option

A perfect balance between Spanish lessons and surfing Ages 11–14 / Ages 14–17 – 6th through 11th grade

This program combines a balanced schedule of Spanish classes with surfing. It offers the opportunity to learn Spanish in a unique setting through engaging, student-centered classes, while participating in a leisure program focused on surfing.

Your trip at a glance

  1. 1 or 2 children per family(your choice)
  2. 3 hours of class per day
  3. 12 to 15 students per teacher

  6. Guided tours departing from 4 cities

Accommodation

  1. With a family selected and visited by our local organizers
  2. Your choice: 1 or 2 French students per family (option to stay with a friend)
  3. Families living in residential neighborhoods near the campus
  4. Full board (on weekdays, a packed lunch provided by the family at noon)

Class

  1. 3 hours of class per day, in the morning
  2. Classes of 12 to 15 students, formed based on a placement test
  3. Interactive courses for significant improvement in both writing and speaking
  4. Practicing speaking skills to build self-confidence
  5. Classes taught by a team consisting of a Spanish teacher and a bilingual teacher, combining different teaching approaches
  6. Submitting a trip report

Supervision

  1. Spanish and French teachers and instructors
  2. 1 adult for every 12 children
  3. 1 French staff member on site, available to parents and students
  4. Priorities: progress in Spanish, youth safety and well-being

Activities and Recreation

  1. 6 surfing sessions, conducted in Spanish ( see details below)
  2. 2 afternoons of recreational activities, led in Spanish, such as (depending on the location):
    – sports: padel tennis, swimming, soccer, volleyball, etc.
    – cultural visits: Santander, the Cantabria region, Gaudí’s Capricho Palace
  1. A one-day excursion, such as to Santillana del Mar, Comillas, etc.

Surf Plan Details

  1. 6 two-hour sessions, in the afternoon
  2. The surfing sessions will take place at the QUIKSILVER & ROXY Escuela Cántabra de Surf: founded in 1991, this school is one of the best in Europe. It is also Spain’s first surf school and ranks among the most prestigious on the continent.
  3. Young people will have the chance to surf at Playa Somo, located in the heart of Spain’s first surfing reserve and one of the country’s premier surfing spots, where they’ll find great waves for all skill levels
  4. A program suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers
  5. Sessions led in Spanish by instructors certified by the European Surf Federation
  6. Teaching basic postures and movements
  7. Depending on the surfers' skill level, transitioning from a lying position to a standing position, mastering steering and speed control, practicing duck dives, takeoffs, and bottom turns, etc.
  8. Discover the world of surfing, its culture, history, and philosophy

Important: All trips with the Surf option are reserved for young people who can swim.
